क्योंकि यह एक सरकारी परंपरा है जिसे डॉक्टर और हॉस्पिटल प्रशासन तोड़ना नहीं चाहते। कोई डॉक्टर रात में आकर पोस्टमॉर्टम नहीं करना चाहता। उनके पास बहुत से कारण है इसे रात में ना करने के।
- हॉस्पिटल से अगर कहा जाय कि रात में पोस्टमॉर्टम किया जाय तो वो स्टाफ की कमी का रोना रोएंगे जो कि सच है। अस्पतालों में नाइट स्टाफ ऐसे ही कम होते हैं, केवल पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए एक व्यक्ति को स्टैंडबाय पर रखना अनावश्यक है। यहां जीवन और मृत्यु का प्रश्न नहीं होता। अधिकतर शव परीक्षण रात तक तो टाला जा सकता है। दिन में स्टाफ अधिक होते हैं इसलिए आसानी होती है।
- अधिकतर पोस्टमॉर्टम रूम की हालत खस्ता होती है। ज्यादातर शव घरों रात में पर्याप्त लाइटिंग की व्यवस्था नहीं होती। बिना पर्याप्त रोशनी के पोस्टमॉर्टम करना संभव नहीं है। दिन में प्राकृतिक रोशनी रहती है इस समय यह करना ज्यादा सुविधा जनक है। एक मिथक इंटरनेट पर बहुत समय से चल रहा है कि कृत्रिम रोशनी में घाव बैंगनी रंग का दिखता है जिस वजह से पोस्टमॉर्टम रात में नहीं किया जाता। यह अवधारणा गलत है। अगर रात में घाव बैंगनी दिखाई देते तो रात में ऑपेरशन थिएटर में ऑपेरशन ना होते। पर रात में ऑपेरशन होते हैं क्योंकि ऑपेरशन थिएटर में रोशनी की पूरी व्यवस्था होती है। सूर्य के प्रकाश और कृत्रिम वाइट लाइट में कोई बहुत ज्यादा अंतर नही होता है। अगर कृत्रिम रोशनी की तीव्रता सही हो तो रात में आराम से पोस्टमॉर्टम किया जा सकता है।
- यह सच भी नही है कि रात में पोस्टमार्टम नही होते। केरल के कई सरकारी अस्पताल में रात में पोस्टमार्टम होता है। यह 2015 से शुरू हुआ।
नागपुर कर सरकारी अस्पताल में भी 2014 से ऐसा आर्डर आया है कि रात में भी पोस्टमार्टम किये जायें। बल्कि ऐसे कई अस्पताल हैं जो रात में पोस्टमार्टम करते हैं।
पोस्टमॉर्टम रात में भी होते हैं और पर्याप्त रोशनी की व्यवस्था हो तो किसी भी समय हो सकते हैं। गाइडलाइन भले ये कहती हो कि पोस्टमार्टम दिन में करना चाहिए पर इसके पीछे एक कारण नौकरशाही सकता है।
पहले रौशनी की व्यवस्था ठीक नही होती थी। इसलिए पोस्टमार्टम दिन के उजाले में करना बेहतर माना जाता था। अब बिजली और रौशनी की ऐसी समस्याएं तो नही है। पश्चिमी उन्नत देशो में पोस्टमार्टम किसी भी समय किया जा सकता है। भारत मे मुर्दाघर की अवस्था बहुत बुरी होती है। यहाँ तो डॉक्टर्स मुर्दे को शरीर को हाथ भी नही लगाते हैं उसके बदले झाड़ू लगाने वाला सफाई कर्मचारी ही काटने, चीर-फाड़ का काम करते हैं। मुर्दाघरों मे ना वेंटिलेशन होता है ना रेफ्रिजरेटर होता है। ऐसे भी दिन में शव परीक्षण करना ज्यादा मुनासिब है।
