Maa Mahagauri form of Maa Durga is worshiped on the Ashtami date of Navratri. Due to wearing Damru, the mother is also known as Shiva. She is also called Mahagauri or Shwetambardhara due to the complexion of Maa Mahagauri.

Form :

Mahagauri's character is Gaur i.e. white and her clothes and ornaments are also of white color. The vehicle of the mother is Vrishabha i.e. bull, which is also the vehicle of Lord Shiva. The right hand of the mother is in Abhayamudra and the lower hand holds the Trishul symbolizing the power of Durga. The symbol of Shiva in the upper hand of Mahagauri is Damru. The lower hand of the mother is in vermillion giving blessings to her devotees and the mother is seen in a calm posture.

Worship Method:

, There is a tradition of offering coconut to the mother on the Ashtami date of Navratri. After offering the bhog, either give the coconut to the Brahmin or else distribute it in the form of Prasad. The devotees who worship the girl on this day, pudding-puri, vegetables and black gram prasad are specially made. Mahagauri loves singing and music. Devotees should wear pink colored clothes while worshiping. The color pink is a symbol of love. She is the ruler of the planet Rahu, which is why Maa Mahagauri is worshiped to get rid of Rahudosha.

Story of Mahagauri

According to Devi Bhagwat Purana, Goddess Parvati was born in the house of Himalaya, the king of mountains. Mother Parvati started penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. During her penance, the mother used to eat only tuberous fruits and leaves. Later the mother started doing penance by drinking only air. Goddess Parvati had attained great glory by penance, hence she was named Mahagauri. Pleased with her penance, Lord Shiva asked her to take a bath in the Ganges. When Mother Parvati went to take a bath, a form of the goddess appeared with a dark complexion, which was called Kaushiki and a form appeared like Ujjwal Chandra, which was called Mahagauri. In the form of Gauri, the mother blesses every devotee and frees them from problems. For those who are unable to keep fast for nine days due to any reason, there is a law to keep fast on Pratipada and Ashtami Tithi in Navratri. This gives the same result as fasting for nine days.

Importance:

It is believed that worshiping Maa Mahagauri brings wealth and happiness and prosperity. For her devotees, she is the form of Annapurna. She is the presiding deity of wealth and prosperity and happiness and peace. Reciting the medium character of Durga Saptashati on this day is considered particularly fruitful.
