Long ago, there was a very high ascetic named Rishi Mandavaya. He had earned many virtues on the strength of his penance. It is a matter of one day that Rishi Mandavaya was doing penance sitting in his hut. They were engrossed in the meditation of the Lord. Then three thieves who were dressed as merchants came running to them and said – O Brahman God! Save us, some dacoits are lying behind us who are disguised as merchants just like us. They want to steal our money from us. Those three thieves had a lot of money. The three thieves were lying to the Maharishi. Behind them were not actually dacoits, but the king's soldiers in merchant attire. Those who were coming to catch them. Maharishi Mandvay hid the words of those three thieves as true and hid them in his hut as a businessman. The three thieves fled by keeping the stolen money in the hut of sage Mandavay ji. When the king's soldiers dressed as merchants reached near the hut of Maharishi Mandvay, they saw the thieves running away. They came to the sage Mandavay and started saying that Brahmin god, why did you drive away those thieves? Sage Mandavay said that he was not a thief, he was telling himself a big businessman and wanted to avoid you by calling you a robber. To escape, they had come to seek shelter in my hut. The king's soldiers said that no Brahmin gods were those dacoits, who used to rob the goods of the passers-by. According to the orders of the king, we disguised as merchants and faced those thieves. We also made a plan to capture the merchants disguised as them and when we were running after them to catch them, they came to your hut. Sage Mandavay could not understand who was telling the truth. The king's soldier mistook Rishi Mandavay as a companion of those thieves and got the stolen money from the hut of Rishi Mandavay. The soldiers took the sage to the king and said, O king! This Brahmin god is the companion of those thieves, he drove those thieves from there. Then the king said that O Brahmin god! You are playing with the faith of people by disguising themselves as Brahmins. Everyone treats you as a Brahmin and worships you, respects you and you deceive them. Sage Mandavaya explained a lot to the king that he was not lying. He considered the thieves to be gentlemen and had given shelter in his hut to save them. But the king did not listen to them and after telling his soldiers ordered the sage Mandavaya to be crucified. The king's soldiers took sage Mandavaya to the cross and crucified him. But the sage Mandavaya attained samadhi through his yogic power. The sage could not pierce the body of the sage Mandavaya. Because sage Mandavaya had saved himself by the power of yoga. They were absorbed in the samadhi as soon as they were crucified. When the king's soldier saw that a huge beam of light had formed around the sage Mandvaya and the crucifix could not pierce his body, they were all terrified. Seeing all these miracles, all the people gathered around. And the sage started saluting the power of Mandavaya. There was also a sage in the crowd of all those people who recognized those sages and said that this is Rishi Mandavaya. As soon as that monk said so, the king's soldiers ran to the king. He told the whole thing to the king and said that he is the sage Mandavaya. Hearing the name of the sage Mandavaya, the king was very nervous. And wondered how could he make such a big mistake? That he did not recognize the sage Mandavaya. The king realized his mistake. He ran to the sage Mandavaya and with folded hands he apologized for his crime. And said, O sage! Forgive me, you can punish me for my crime if you want. I will consider it my atonement. Please come down from the cross. But sage Mandavay refused to come down from the cross and said that the king I was following your orders. He does as the king orders the subjects. Now you are asking to come down from the cross, then I will not come down from the cross, but will go straight to Dharmaraj first. Because because of them I have got this punishment. It is not your fault in this. You punished the same as you saw the situation. After saying this, sage Mandavaya went to Dharmaraja. Going to Dharmaraj, he said that what such bad deed I had done that you punished me so severely. As far as I remember I have not done anything bad in my life till now. Then Dharmaraja said that O sage Mandavay, when you were in your childhood, you caught a butterfly and pierced it with the spleen. I have punished you for that. Then Sage Mandavay said that - According to the scriptures and religion, any crime committed by children from birth to 12 years is not punishable. Because they do not know about good or bad karma for 12 years, nor do they know about dharma and adharma. So how can you punish them for what they have done. When I would have pierced a butterfly, at that time I did not know what was right and what was wrong. I have not committed any adharma since the time I attained enlightenment. You have done this wrong to me. You who sit on the throne of justice have done injustice to me. Then sage Madvaya cursed Dharmaraja that you will be born in the earth world from the womb of a Shudra mother and who you have done injustice to me by sitting on the throne of justice, in the same way you solve the mystery of justice and injustice on earth. - solve And you'll be tired. This is the punishment for your crime and you will not be able to know what is right or wrong? Saying this the sage Mandavaya again returned to the earth and came to his hut and started doing penance. Then Dharmaraj ji took birth from the womb of a maidservant on earth in Dwapar yuga according to the curse of sage Mandvay and called Vidur ji, this Vidur ji was the same who was the brother of Dhritarashtra and Pandu.
