हमारे धर्म ग्रंथों में कार्तिक महीने का बहुत बड़ा महत्व बताया गया है । विष्णु भगवान कहते हैं कि मुझे महीनों में कार्तिक माह और वृक्षों में तुलसी जी सबसे अधिक प्रिय हैं । कार्तिक के महीने में स्नान , दान पुण्य आदि के करने का करोड़ों गुना फल मिलता है । कार्तिक मास में तुलसी जी की पूजा करने का विशेष महत्व है । जो लोग कार्तिक मास में माता तुलसी की पूजा करते हैं , उनके सामने घी का दीपक जलाते हैं उनके घर में धन-धान्य और सौभाग्य की वृद्धि होती है । क्योंकि तुलसी माता में स्वयं मां लक्ष्मी का वास माना जाता है । कार्तिक महीने में सुनी जाने वाली तुलसी माता की कहानी इस प्रकार है ।
एक गांव में कुछ औरतें आपस में मिलकर कार्तिक मास में तुलसी जी की पूजा किया करती थी और तुलसी जी को सींचा करती थी । उनमें एक बुढ़िया ऐसी भी थी जो तुलसी माता को सींच कर कहती थी कि
हे तुलसी माता – सत की दाता , मैं तेरा बिड़ला सींचती हूं , मुझे बहू दे , पीतांबर की धोती दे , मीठा-मीठा गास दे , वैकुंठा में वास दे , चटक की चाल दे , पटक की मौत दे , चंदन का काठ दे , रानी सा राज दे , दाल भात का भोजन दे , ग्यारस की मौत दे , और कान्हा जी का कंधा दे ।
यह कहकर वह बुढ़िया अपने घर चली जाती । धीरे – धीरे तुलसी जी सूखने लगी । तब विष्णु भगवान जी तुलसी माता से बोले कि क्या हुआ तुलसी , तुम इतना सूख क्यों रही हो । तब तुलसी जी कहती हैं कि एक बुढ़िया मेरे पास आती है और इस प्रकार से कहती है । मैं उसे ये सब तो दे दूंगी , परंतु कृष्ण जी का कंधा कहां से दूंगी । तब विष्णु भगवान कहते हैं कि तुलसी तुम चिंता मत करो , जब बुढ़िया मरेगी तो मैं अपने आप उसे कंधा दें आऊंगा । जब कुछ वर्ष पश्चात वह बुढ़िया मर गई तो सब उसे उठाने लगे । लेकिन वह बुढ़िया इतनी भारी हो गई कि किसी से ना उठी । तब सब कहने लगे कि यह तो इतना दान और पुण्य करती थी , लेकिन तब भी है कितनी भारी हो गई है ,कि किसी से उठ ही नहीं रही है । तब भगवान जी एक आदमी का रूप धारण करके आए और कहने लगे कि क्या हुआ ? तब सब लोगों ने बताया कि बुढ़िया माई बहुत भारी हो रही है और किसी से उठ नहीं रही हैं । तब कान्हा जी ने बुढ़िया माई के कान में जाकर कहा कि –
बुढ़िया माई मन की निकाल ले , पीतांबर की धोती ले ,
मीठा-मीठा गास ले , वैकुंठा में वास ले , चटक की चाल ले , पटक की मौत ले , ग्यारस की मौत ले और कृष्ण जी का कांधा ले ।
जैसे ही यह शब्द उस बुढ़िया माई के कान में गए तो बुढ़िया माई का शरीर हल्का हो गया । तब कृष्ण भगवान ने बुढ़िया को कंधा दिया और बुढ़िया मां को मोक्ष मिल गया ।
हे तुलसी माता ,जैसे आपने उस बुढ़िया माई को मोक्ष प्रदान किया , ऐसे ही हम सब को मोक्ष प्रदान करना ।

The story of Tulsi ji heard in the month of Kartik
Great importance of Kartik month has been told in our religious texts. Lord Vishnu says that in the month of Kartik month and among the trees, Tulsi ji is most dear to me. Taking bath, charity, etc. in the month of Kartik gives crores of folds of fruit. Worshiping Tulsi ji in Kartik month has special significance. Those who worship Mata Tulsi in the month of Kartik, light a lamp of ghee in front of her, there is an increase in wealth and good fortune in their house. Because in Tulsi Mata herself is believed to be the abode of Goddess Lakshmi. The story of Tulsi Mata heard in the month of Kartik is as follows.
In a village some women used to worship Tulsi ji with each other in the month of Kartik and used to irrigate Tulsi ji. Among them there was an old lady who used to irrigate Tulsi Mata and say that
O Tulsi Mata - the giver of truth, I water your Birla, give me a daughter-in-law, give me a dhoti of pitambar, give me sweet and sweet gas, dwell in Vaikuntha, give me the speed of sparkle, give me the death of Patak, give me sandalwood wood, queen Give me a secret, give food of lentils, give death to Gyaras, and give Kanha ji's shoulder.
Saying this the old lady went to her house. Gradually Tulsi ji started drying up. Then Lord Vishnu said to Tulsi Mata that what happened Tulsi, why are you getting so dry. Then Tulsi ji says that an old lady comes to me and says like this. I will give all this to him, but from where will I give the shoulder of Krishna ji. Then Lord Vishnu says that Tulsi, don't worry, when the old lady dies, I will automatically come to give her shoulder. When the old lady died after a few years, everyone started raising her. But the old lady became so heavy that she could not get up from anyone. Then everyone started saying that it used to do so much charity and virtue, but even then it has become so heavy that it is not getting up from anyone. Then Lord ji came in the form of a man and started saying what happened? Then everyone told that old lady Mai is getting very heavy and is not getting up from anyone. Then Kanha ji went to the old lady's ear and said that –
Take out the old lady of my mind, take out the dhoti of Pitambar,
Take a sweet gas, take breath in Vaikuntha, take the gait of Chatak, kill Patak, take the death of Gyaras and take Krishna's shoulder.
As soon as these words entered the ear of that old lady, the old lady's body became lighter. Then Lord Krishna gave shoulder to the old lady and the old lady got salvation.
O Tulsi Mata, just as you have given salvation to that old lady, in the same way give salvation to all of us.
